Long-term settlement behavior of ground around shield tunnel due to leakage of water in soft deposit

Huaina WU, Yeshuang XU, Shui-long SHEN, Jin-chun CHAI

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2011, Volume 5, Issue 2,   Pages 194-198 doi: 10.1007/s11709-011-0105-y

Abstract: The lining of shield tunnel is usually composed of segments, in which the joints, cracks, and the grouting holes (hereafter called lining deficit) exist. During the long-term running, soils and groundwater may leak from these kinds of lining deficit. The leaking of soil and groundwater causes the long-term ground loss around tunnel and thus results in the settlement of ground surface. This paper aims to analyze the impact of the leakage of groundwater through segments on the long-term settlement of ground surface. The adopted analytical method is based on the theory of groundwater seepage by using numerical simulation. The analyzed results show that settlement of ground surface increases gradually with the increase of the leaked volume of tunnel segments. When the leaked volume was unevenly distributed, differential settlement occurred locally. Comparative analysis by changing the leaked volume was conducted. The results reveal that there is a linear relationship between settlement and leaked volume when the leaked volume was controlled within the allowable limit.

Frontiers in Energy 2021, Volume 15, Issue 1,   Pages 26-37 doi: 10.1007/s11708-020-0668-1

Abstract: When ZD was burned alone, the P W deposit was comprised of agglomerates (<30 m) enriched in CaSO andThe P L deposit was mainly fine ash particles where Na SiO and Na SO were absent.aluminosilicates dominated the mineral phases whereas Na SiO and Na SO disappeared, showing a decrease in depositLikewise, the P W deposit was found less spread on the probe, decreasing its deposition propensity.Na-bearing minerals turned into (Na, K)(Si Al)O and (Ca, Na)(Si, Al) O in the P W deposit.

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2015, Volume 9, Issue 2,   Pages 190-196 doi: 10.1007/s11783-014-0628-2

Abstract: To recycle the sludge resource from sewage treatment plants and solve the problem of odor pollution, the sludge was converted into an adsorbent by carbonized pyrolysis and the process was optimized by orthogonal experiments. The capability for odor removal as well as the structure of the adsorbent was studied with H S as a target pollutant. The results indicate that the main factor affecting the deodorization performance of the adsorbent is the activating time. The sludge adsorbent sample SAC1 prepared under optimum conditions exhibits the best deodorization performance with a H S breakthrough time of 58 min and an iodine value nearly that of the coal activated carbon. The breakthrough time of H S is much longer than that on the coal activated carbon. On the other hand, characterization results from X-ray diffractometer (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques show that SAC1 is composed of mainly graphite carbon with lower oxygen content on the surface. The bulk of SAC1 exhibits a honeycomb structure with well developed porosity and a high specific surface area of 120.47 m ·g , with the average pore diameter being about 5 nm. Such a structure is in favor of H S adsorption. Moreover, SAC1 is detected to contain various metal elements such as Zn, Fe, Mg, etc., leading to a superior deodorization property to that of coal activated carbon.
